Love and Security and the Reason for Wrong Relationships
Source: I have misplaced the source of this article :O/
Genesis 24:67And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.Genesis verse 67 reveals that Isaac was NOT comforted after the death of his mother until he married his wife, Rebecca. His heart ached for the love of his mother and grief filled his soul. You need to talk to God about the pain in order for God to heal you on the inside. You must ask God to help you confront the pain. God will NOT intrude where He is not wanted. You must ask Him to help you, talk about it with others, and deal with it so that you can move on with your life in a healthy way.
Man's attempt to satisfy his need for security apart from God also produces its share of trouble. When the basic need of security is unmet, fear can become a major problem, creating the potential for control and manipulation, aggressiveness, or compliance.
Confusion is another byproduct of insecurity. Sometimes, man draws security from money and investments or sometimes by relationships. This situation can yield co-dependency or produce serious abandonment issues. It is easy to become dependent on anything or anyone that provides security. Security, like love, is a very important need, motivating people in their jobs and relationships. However, the need for security, like the need for love, can produce a host of problem issues in an individual's life, if this need is satisfied apart from God.
This need to feel significant is still within man and, if unmet, produces many problems such as poor self-esteem and distorted self-image. Children who suffer rejection may spend their lives attempting to feel important, or perhaps they become like the prostitute who masochistically subjects herself to endless degradation, which reinforces the image of worthlessness resident in her soul.
Mankind desperately needs to feel important and special. A gang member who gunned down four people said "I wanted to be somebody." These children, apart from God, may spend the rest of their lives attempting to alleviate those feelings. They may become performance-driven workaholics or insecure, fearful failures. Significance is an emotional and mental need with which each person is born and will spend his life attempting to meet.
So, the need for love, security, and significance are man's major goals. One tends to revere and honor whatever satisfies his needs, deeming it precious to his heart and life. If God is NOT the source of these needs, this highly favored assignment goes to another. This circumstance positions God in COMPETITION. The result is idolatry which jeopardizes ALL AREAS of one's life. A person is OUT OF ORDER when he satisfies his needs selfishly and apart from God. This very serious aberration of God's plan produces an assortment of relationship abuses.
Love is PATIENT, love is KIND. It does NOT ENVY, it does NOT BOAST, it is NOT PROUD. It is NOT RUDE, it is NOT SELF-SEEKING, it is NOT EASILY ANGERED, it KEEPS NO RECORD OF WRONGS. Love does NOT DELIGHT IN EVIL but REJOICES with the TRUTH. It ALWAYS PROTECTS, ALWAYS TRUSTS, ALWAYS HOPES, ALWAYS PERSEVERES. Love NEVER FAILS....And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these IS love.
1 Corinthians 13:4-13 (NIV)(verse 4) Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
(verse 5) Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
(verse 6) Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
(verse 7) Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
(verse 8) Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
(verse 9) For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
(verse 10) But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
(verse 11) When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
(verse 12) For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
(verse 13) And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.1 Corinthians 13 (KJV) verses 4-13
Love must be sincere. HATE what is evil; CLING to what is good.
BLESS those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud... Do not repay anyone evil for evil....Do not take revenge...
Do not be OVERCOME by evil, but OVERCOME evil with good. Romans 12:9, 14-19, 21 (NIV)(verse 9) Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.
(verse 14) Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.
(verse 15) Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.
(verse 16) Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.
(verse 17) Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.
(verse 18) If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
(verse 19) Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
(verse 21) Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.Romans 12 (KJV) verses 9, 14-19, 21
