What does the BIBLE say about Demons
Can a Christian Have a Demon
pages to read
NOTE: This article is very good, but in the very first paragraph Sandy makes a point to say that she does not believe that demons can take full ownership of a person. She may be referring only to Christians because this is what the article is about which then I agree, but I do believe that demons can take full ownership of an 'unbeliever.' This is what the Bible teaches. I just wanted to make that clear. -Admin-
Scriptures That Confirm That Christians Can Be 'Demonized'
Writer: Sandy Simpson | 28 June 1997 | www.deceptioninthechurch.com
Just to give you a little background -- I am not one of those people that attribute everything to Satan in this life including all disease, disability, tragedy, and sin. He is only one force at work -- there is also the flesh and the world. And above all forces there is God, the only constant force of grace, righteousness, faithfulness and purity. But we as Christians must also not rule out demonization in our lives.
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. 1 Peter 5:8
This was spoken to Christians!
Our enemy also masquerades as an angel of light.
And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 2 Corinthians 11:14
We need to be aware that the enemy is deceitful and can work through people who act as though they are following Christ, and to all outward appearances it looks like they are, but by their false prophesies, preaching of a different gospel, and by the fruit of their actions we can discover that they are really demonized false apostles.
For such [are] false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore [it is] no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. 2 Corinthians 11:13-15
However, lest we become complacent as Christians, the enemy can also demonize those who are true believers. The following teachings and examples from the Bible are plentiful on this subject. The argument that the Holy Spirit cannot exist in the same space as sin or a demon is ludicrous on two counts. First, this reduces the person of the Holy Spirit to some kind of good "force" when the Bible portrays Him as the third person of the Trinity. Second, the Holy Spirit is omnipresent and is working in the regenerate believer, who himself is still struggling with the old nature even though he has been given a new nature, a new self.
For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. Galatians 5:17
There is nowhere in Scripture that says the Holy Spirit cannot be present with evil. This kind of idea is without biblical merit and is, in fact, a denigration of the power of God. The Almighty Spirit of God that created ALL beings has total control and dominion over good and evil. It is up to us as believers to believe (continuous tense) in Jesus Christ and to persevere and overcome.
For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. Romans 8:13
But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to [fulfil] the lusts [thereof]. Romans 13:14
For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only [use] not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. Galatians 5:13
Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in [his] goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. Romans 11:22
For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. 2 Peter 2:20
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God. Revelation 2:7
