What is a Christian
Read Matthew 6:24No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.Matthew 6 verse 24 and Luke 16:13No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.Luke 16 verse 13.

I find there is much confusion over the answer to that question today. The media often uses the term "Christian" simply as a category for a man or woman who belongs to a major world religion. Many people believe that someone is a Christian simply because that person attends church occasionally or was raised in a godly home. For some, it's no more than a box to check off on an application or survey. Some religions teach that you can be born into their faith.
To become a Christian, you must:
- ADMIT that you are a sinner in need of a Savior. Understand that you have been separated from God by sin from birth.
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23 (NKJV)For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.Romans 3 (KJV) verse 23
Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me. Psalm 51:5
But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you. Isaiah 59:2But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid [his] face from you, that he will not hear.Isaiah 59 verse 2
- REPENT of (turn away from) your sin.
For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance. Matthew 9:13b (NKJV)But go ye and learn what [that] meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.Matthew 9 (KJV) verse 13
Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord. Acts 3:19
- BELIEVE that Christ died on the cross for your sin, and rose again from the dead.
If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9 (NKJV)That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.Romans 10 (KJV) verse 9
- RECEIVE Christ by faith into your heart for the forgiveness of sin and the gift of eternal life.
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23
If you have never received Christ as your Savior, you may do so now by praying the following prayer, give me Jesus!
The 5 Fundamentals of the Faith
These are 5 things you need to believe in order to be a Christian.
- the deity of Christ (John 1:1-3, 14(verse 1) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
(verse 2) The same was in the beginning with God.
(verse 3) All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
(verse 14) And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.John 1 verses 1-3, 14, John 10:30-33(verse 30) I and [my] Father are one.
(verse 31) Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.
(verse 32) Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?
(verse 33) The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.John 10 verses 30-33, John 12:45And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me.John 12 verse 45, John 14:7-9(verse 7) If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
(verse 8) Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.
(verse 9) Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou [then], Shew us the Father?John 14 verses 7-9, Romans 9:5Whose [are] the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ [came], who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.Romans 9 verse 5, Colossians 1:15-17(verse 15) Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
(verse 16) For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether [they be] thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
(verse 17) And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.Colossians 1 verses 15-17, Colossians 2:9For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.Colossians 2 verse 9, 1 Timothy 3:16And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.1 Timothy 3 verse 16, Titus 2:13Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.Titus 2 verse 13, Hebrews 1:8But unto the Son [he saith], Thy throne, O God, [is] for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness [is] the sceptre of thy kingdom.Hebrews 1 verse 8, also read The Deity of Jesus Christ)
- the virgin birth (Matthew 1:16-25)
- the death sacrifice of the Lord (Matthew 27:28-54, Mark 15:17-39, John 19:2-35)
- the bodily resurrection (Matthew 27:62-66(verse 62) Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate,
(verse 63) Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again.
(verse 64) Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.
(verse 65) Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make [it] as sure as ye can.
(verse 66) So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.Matthew 27 verses 62-66 - Matthew 28:7, 19(verse 7) And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.
(verse 19) Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:Matthew 28 verses 7, 19, Mark 16:1-9(verse 1) And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the [mother] of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.
(verse 2) And very early in the morning the first [day] of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.
(verse 3) And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre?
(verse 4) And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great.
(verse 5) And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted.
(verse 6) And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.
(verse 7) But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you.
(verse 8) And they went out quickly, and fled from the sepulchre; for they trembled and were amazed: neither said they any thing to any [man]; for they were afraid.
(verse 9) Now when [Jesus] was risen early the first [day] of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.Mark 16:1-9 , John 20:1-22)

Churches and preachers today are abandoning these necessary fundamentals. Anyone who throws out any one of these basics is following another religion.
What does the Bible say a Christian should be
Romans 12:9-21 tells us how to behave like a Christian.
9 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.
10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;
11 Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;
12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;
13 Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.
14 Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.
15 Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.
16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.
17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.
