What does the BIBLE say about Addictions

Page 2

Seven ways we are called to be an example to others:

(1) By what we teach others to do.

(2) By what we say to others.

(3) By the way we conduct ourselves and how we live.

(4) By our love for others to be evident to people who don't know God.

(5) By our motivation in making godly decisions that should stem from our love for God and from the Word of God.

(6) By our faith as believers in Jesus Christ.

(7) By our purity in living.

If You Are Battling an Addiction Here is How You Break the Cycle

If you meditate upon these truths, and get them down deep into your heart, you will find that there is no room for an addiction.

(1) Repent before God and ask for forgiveness. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. [5]

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

(2) Admit your sin or weakness to someone you can be accountable to. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.

Confess [your] faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. James 5:16

(3) Look for the error in your thinking that allowed the entrance of this bondage. There was a lie of the devil that came in and deceived you. It is important to search out that lie and apply the Truth of God's word to it. And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. John 8:32

(4) Select an activity that will replace the habit you have now repented of. Since the power to be delivered is in God's Word, (Romans 1:16Bible quoteFor I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.Romans 1 verse 16), the activity should be Christ centered for example reading your Bible, listening to teaching tapes, attending church or a bible study. Choose something that will strengthen your spirit-man. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. Galatians 6:8

(5) After you have become free from this addiction, it is important to help some one else who is struggling in this same way. You will be demonstrating the love of God and it will also re-enforce your own victory. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give. Matthew 10:8

I would like to pray a prayer of agreement for every person that is fighting an addiction.

Father, in the Name of Jesus I lift up to you every person reading this that wants to be free of an addiction. I join my faith with theirs right now that they will know the truth and the truth will set them free. I break the chains of bondage now in the Name of Jesus. I come against every satanic lie that has held this person from whom you have called them to be. I plead the precious blood of Jesus over every area of their life. I ask Lord that you would surround them with your mighty angels to keep them and protect them from that which is seeking to take their life. Father, I pray you will give them wisdom and strength to overcome every ungodly habit. Show them those around them that they can help come to know you and your anointing that destroys the yoke of bondage. I ask this in the Name of Jesus. Amen.
