NOTE: This article was originally written in response to the December 21st, 2012 sorcery predictions that gripped the world. I decided it was better to retain my original article here. However, in spite of the passing of 2012 these truths still hold true. The Word of God has not changed and does not change. -Admin-

Jesus most clearly states in His Word that NO ONE will know the day or the hour in which He will return. If everyone knew the day and the hour the Lord would return then many people would live like the heathen until that moment, but instead God has a definitive purpose for us all. He wants us to live well and obey His commandments for a very good reason - He is protecting us. Nothing good ever comes about from disobeying God.
But of that day and hour, knoweth no man, no, not the angels of Heaven, but My Father only. Matthew 24:36
Watch therefore, for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. Matthew 24:42
Therefore be ye also ready, for in such an hour as ye think not, the Son of Man cometh. Matthew 24:44
Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of Man cometh. Matthew 25:13
But of that day and that hour knoweth no man -- no, not the angels who are in Heaven, neither the Son, but only the Father. Mark 13:32
But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken; The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for [him], and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not [himself], neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many [stripes]. Luke 12:45-47
I highly recommend reading the entire chapter of Matthew 24 because the entire chapter is about the very day of the Lord's coming.
All eyes should be on God, focusing on preparing ourselves to meet Him, and witnessing to others about the good news of Jesus Christ so that the entire world may be reached and have the opportunity to make a decision to follow Jesus or follow Lucifer.
And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. Matthew 24:14
It is the goal of Satan to distract people away from that primary purpose as much as possible. As long as he can keep people focused on ungodly things, then he knows that the human mind will wander, be easily tempted and led astray so cleverly that one will not even notice how far they have strayed.
And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from Him for a season.

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their conscience seared with a hot iron, forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 1 Timothy 4:1-3
Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil walketh about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren who are in the world. 1 Peter 5:8-9
These people who make such predictions as December 21st, 2012 being "doomsday" and "the end of the world" go by many different names such as prognosticator, sorcerers, witches, psychics, wizards, alchemist, augurer, charmer, clairvoyant, conjurer, diviner, enchanter, fortune teller, magician, medium, necromancer, occultist, seer, shaman, soothsayer, sorceress, thaumaturge, warlock and more. Read religious sorcerers.

Another dictionary defines it this way:
