Is there anything in this world that is worth more than your eternal soul?
These verses from Matthew and Mark are so profound for today's church. When the Bible speaks of wealth it is most often not speaking about money and material possessions. If people would only read the Authorized King James Version of the Bible they would find that there is nothing to support God promising us fame and fortune. In fact, "what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?.... whosoever shall LOSE HIS LIFE for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it."
For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Matthew 16:26
For what shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Mark 8:35-37
The 1968 movie Rosemary's Baby is a story of a man who was willing to give everything he had, including his wife and child, to Satan in order to have promised fame and riches. He sold his soul to Satan.
How many people give any thought to those who are being murdered for their faith in Jesus Christ? Read Persecution in the End Times. Most Americans seem to give no thought at all to anyone but themselves. Going to religious services has become all about "What is God going to do for ME?" It is the "ME" generation... I want, I want, I want... (Matthew 6:21For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.Matthew 6 verse 21).
Many say with their mouths that they love Jesus, but they are living with another they are not married to, they are having intimate relationships with another they are not married to, they murder people they do not like within their own minds and curse them by wishing ill things upon them, they desire what others have by going to any means to gain what they want, they lie and betray the righteous for their own gain.
Many say with their mouths that they love Jesus, but their love is shallow and self-seeking. When a friend is persecuted and torn, God's commandments, the great commission are all forgotten. Fear sets in just as the disciples denied Christ when He was crucified. (Matthew 26:75And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.Matthew 26 verse 75) When they see another in need of food, clothing or shelter, they turn away unwilling to make any sacrifice to help another especially out of one's own need. Many are unwilling to sacrifice out of their own need or to give anything to others that takes away from themselves - they abort the child who was in their way, they abort the friend who was down and out.
(James 2:15-20
(verse 15) If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
(verse 16) And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be [ye] warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what [doth it] profit?
(verse 17) Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
(verse 18) Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
(verse 19) Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
(verse 20) But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?James 2 verses 15-20)
Money, fame, power is all temporary. Money in itself is not a bad thing. We all need it to survive and it's nice if one can do better than just surviving, but there are many Scriptures indicating that MONEY would become a hindrance for us (Matthew 19:24And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.Matthew 19 verse 24,
Mark 10:25
It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.Mark 10 verse 25,
Luke 18:25
For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.Luke 18 verse 25). These 'prosperity gospel' and 'word of faith' preachers are misleading masses of people with their twisting of Scripture to have people believe that all Christians should be wealthy with money, material possessions, and successful occupations.
Many say with their mouths that they love Jesus, but in their hearts they love themselves more - competing with others with the clothes they wear, the cars they drive, the positions they hold, the people they befriend for name's sake only. In the same breath they say how they love Jesus but turn and speak falsely of others - gossiping, slandering, bad mouthing, belittling unkind words.
The Bible says we know a Christian by their fruits. One of those fruits spoken of in Galatians is "LOVE," NOT MATERIAL WEALTH! So many people have said they love me and they gave me hugs, but I could see by their actions what they truly loved....fame, money, material possessions, idols, FOLLOWERS of prosperity and keeping up appearances. I could see by their actions what kind of love they had for me and I wanted no part of their definition of love and lies. The Bible says that you cannot say that you love God and yet hate your brother (1 John 4:20If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?1 John 4 verse 20). The Bible says that you are deceiving yourselves.
Much is said in the Bible about those who gossip, lie, hate their brother and do evil against others. People who go around in life always speaking poorly of others, fabricating stories to hurt others, harassing others, causing strife and division, and creating groups to support your unrighteous efforts in order to gang up on people you want out of your way, you are insecure, bitter, jealous people with massive pent-up personal issues going on that you take out on innocent people. These issues you keep holding inside gives Satan a foothold into your lives and into your bodies for demon possession. God has a message to those of you who do these abominations.
Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them. Romans 1:28-32 (NIV)(verse 28) And even as they did not like to retain God in [their] knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
(verse 29) Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
(verse 30) Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
(verse 31) Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
(verse 32) Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.Romans 1 (KJV) verses 28-32
Have you been thinking all along that we have been defending ourselves to you? We have been speaking in the sight of God as those in Christ; and everything we do, dear friends, is for your strengthening. For I am afraid that when I come I may not find you as I want you to be, and you may not find me as you want me to be. I fear that there may be quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, factions, slander, gossip, arrogance and disorder. I am afraid that when I come again my God will humble me before you, and I will be grieved over many who have sinned earlier and have not repented of the impurity, sexual sin and debauchery in which they have indulged. 2 Corinthians 12:19-21 (NIV)(verse 19) Again, think ye that we excuse ourselves unto you? we speak before God in Christ: but [we do] all things, dearly beloved, for your edifying.
(verse 20) For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and [that] I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest [there be] debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults:
(verse 21) [And] lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and [that] I shall bewail many which have sinned already, and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed.2 Corinthians 12 (KJV) verses 19-21
